Background

College: Bachelor of Arts in English/Creative Writing from the University of South Dakota, where I was also a sports and humor columnist, reporter, editor and designer for the college newspaper.

Newspapers: My career in journalism has covered the full spectrum of news production, including work as an editor, copy editor, designer, web producer and reporter. While sports editor at the Longmont Daily Times-Call, I wrote a semi-regular sports column. Later, in my final job as assistant sports editor for the Rocky Mountain News, I regularly wrote breaking news for the website's sports section.

Post-newspapers: After the Rocky closed in 2009, I was a regular constributor for two online news projects of which I was also the editor and co-founder: INDenverTimes.com and RockyMountainIndependent.com. My involvement with INDenverTimes.com — and that of my Rocky colleagues who helped launch the site — ended in April 2009. The RMI ended its experiement peacefully in October 2009; an archive of my work for the RMI can be found here .

Personal: In early 2006, between leaving the Rocky Mountain News the first time and joining the Chicago Sun-Times, I took six months off to finish a novel that began as a short story in college.

Currently: I write and edit regularly for InsideTheRockies.com, a website devoted to coverage of the Colorado Rockies I launched with the Rocky's two baseball writers, Tracy Ringolsby and Jack Etkin. Working through the TEN|10 Group, I have contibuted content for client websites and edit the 10spot. And, of course, I write as often as I can here at AmericasFish.com.
