Google's evolution into a do-gooding whale

The first book finished in the bowl here in 2012 is Steven Levy's In the Plex, a history of Google. Reading the book straddled the birth of my daughter — I was halfway through when she was born and have since been too busy to get much reading done — which leads me to at least consider what sort of company Google will be in her lifetime.

The Colorado Rockies limp home after a road trip that was far less disastrous than it felt. Meanwhile, America's Fish relocates to Chicago for a weekend that will undoubtedly involve, at some point, a hot dog or, as some would call it, a weiner.

The Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants open a fairly crucial series this weekend, one that may be so engrossing I would be tempted to get carryout all weekend so as not to miss a single moment while fixing dinner. But Pei Wei is off the menu after an ill-timed email blast. And having finished those two sentences, it's comforting to know I spelled all the words correctly (more or less) on my first try.
