On why the Hollywood Foreign Press is a joke
I'm sure there is actually more than one reason, but this is mine:
I generally don't take Golden Globe nominations seriously, but when Wall-E was left off the Best Musical/Comedy list today, that was it. Wall-E is to computer animation roughly what Snow White was to handdrawn animation. I love nearly all the Pixar movies (Cars being a notable and disappointing exception), but recognize that their brilliance to this point has been in a daring humor and an unwillingness to make children's moves that talk down to children. But imagine the balls it took to make an animated movie that has almost no dialogue throughout, and barely a word spoken for 45 minutes, while other companies are paying millions for Ben Stiller's voiceover as if that is somehow a sound business decision let alone artistic one.
But the scene with the robots "dancing" is just . . . there are no words. It is perfect.

I agree about Wall-E. And having gone to see Mamma Mia! in the theater, I can attest that it should be nowhere near any awards with the words "best" in the name.
