Who is America's Fish?

Steve FosterSteve Foster, a former journalist for the Rocky Mountain News, Chicago Sun-Times and Longmont Daily Times-Call. In just more than 12 years in newspapers, I worked as an assistant news editor, copy editor, designer, sports editor, tech guru and web producer. My newspaper career ended in February 2009, when the Rocky closed just shy of its 150th birthday.

I was born in the Black Hills of South Dakota and a graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in English. I moved to Colorado in 1996 and have called the state home nearly ever since — only a brief hiatus in Chicago during which Mrs. America's Fish worked at the Chicago Tribune and I worked on the other side of the Loop at the Sun-Times drew me away. The fish family returned to Colorado — and the Rocky — just in time for the heartbreaking closure of the newsroom where we first met.

Since the Rocky closed in 2009, America's Fish has been involved in several news startups including INDenvertTimes.com and RockyMountainIndependent.com as well as many other individual websites started by former colleagues.

I now do design, development, copywriting and web strategy independently and through Casey Nikoloric's TEN|10 Group, a Denver communications collaborative.

Who America's Fish works for

Whether it's as a member of the TEN|10 Group or independently, America's Fish works with small businesses and individuals in need of multiple services — design, development, copywriting and sometimes just advice — but operating on a budget. As a partner in several startups, I understand how resources quickly can be drained by expenses that no one considered and suddenly a great idea is buried by debt. America's Fish works largely with startups in such situations, companies like Waste Farmers, Domahidy Consulting and Weber Law that have an idea and need to develop an identity, but also larger concerns and limited resources. I also work with companies and individuals who want to improve their online presence or need help getting a website off the ground but want to take it over once it gets going.
